He also served in the United States Naval Reserves for six years.

1989 Dr. Adrian Rondilieu Award for Professional Achievement and Community Service

2000 Recipient of the Arthur F. Humm, Jr. Award for support and leadership to the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technicians

2005 New England Historic Genealogical Society. Served three consecutive terms as trustee. Served 3 years as Councilor.

2005 Pilgrim Museum and Pilgrim Society. Served three consecutive terms as trustee. Currently serving as a Vice President.

2012 Bridgewater State University (Founded in 1840 by Horace Mann as the first permanent state college for the education of teachers) named the College of Science and Mathematics, the Bartlett College of Science and Mathematics, after him and his wife. The college produces the highest number of hired science and math teachers in the state of Massachusetts.

2016 Recipient of an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Bridgewater State University.

2020 Honorary Doctorate Degree in History from the University of Arizona.

April 23, 2020, voted Honorary Trustee by the New England Historic Genealogical Society.

Justin Papania

President

Papania oversees the multi-crafts division for Bartlett Group. This entails coordinating complex projects, managing diverse teams and ensuring seamless operations within high-pressure environments.

Starting his career in the industrial field as a scaffold builder while pursuing his college education, Justin Papania has quickly ascended through the ranks to assume a management role.

In his current capacity, Papania oversees the multi-crafts division for Bartlett Group. This entails coordinating complex projects, managing diverse teams, and ensuring seamless operations within high-pressure environments. His exceptional leadership skills and extensive industry knowledge enable him to successfully navigate the challenges inherent in large-scale industrial operations.

Papania consistently drives his teams to exceed expectations. His ability to communicate effectively, coordinate resources, and execute projects precisely has made him an invaluable asset in industrial construction.

Mark Sammis

President—HSE & HR

Mark received his degree from McNeese State University after which he entered the industrial safety and human resources arena. Mark continually focuses on the core issues that impact the scaffolding industry. His experience in employee selection, retention, and on-site customer integration is what gives our company it’s edge.

Steve Thacker

Senior Vice President/Co-Founder

Steve Thacker became the senior vice president and co-founder of Next Generation Scaffold Services after climbing the ranks through the scaffold industry from his start as a union labor apprentice. With 19 years in the industry, Steve’s experience gained in the field, sales, and management gives him a broad vision when designing new products to improve safety and efficiency in the industry. He has been awarded numerous US/International patents with many new designs pending. Belief in continuous improvement has led Steve to work toward completing his Construction Management degree to further guide NextGen in leading the way in improvement within the scaffolding industry.

Nate Bumstead

HSE Division Director

Nate, a Louisiana State University graduate, has 16 years of experience in the petrochemical industry. He started his career with a major mechanical contractor and later became the Safety Supervisor for a large refining company. As a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Nate combines technical expertise with a team-oriented leadership style. He believes sustained safety excellence comes from engaging employees and building trust within the organization.

Lance Smith

Engineering Design

Lance attended UMBC where he studied Mechanical Engineering. He has worked in the nuclear, industrial, government, maritime and commercial sectors for over 30 years. He has an extensive background in the development of custom and specialty components, as well as engineering complex scaffold designs that have been used across all sectors. His attention to detail when working with clients has earned him the respect of many.

Nick Crum

Construction Manager

Nick Crum began his career in residential carpentry at 18, building a strong foundation that grew into expertise in scaffold design, planning, management and process improvement. Known for his integrity, work ethic, and commitment to safety, he has successfully led major projects, turnarounds, and maintenance contracts across the United States. His leadership and focus on excellence have been instrumental in driving organizational growth and delivering outstanding results for clients.

Nate is a graduate of Louisiana State University and brings 16 years of experience working in the petrochemical industry. Nate began his career working for a major mechanical contractor and eventually became the Safety Supervisor for a large refining company. Nate brings a team orientated approach as a leader, as well as technical expertise as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Nate firmly believes that sustained safety excellence is derived from actively engaging employees and building trust within an organization.

Our scaffold should be erected, inspected and maintained in accordance with OSHA regulations and our Technical Manual. A copy of our Technical Manual can be downloaded under the Resources section.
